How to Skip Microsoft Account Setup During Windows Installation

During Windows 11 setup, Microsoft now tries to force you to use a Microsoft account to sign in,  This can be frustrating for administrators or users who prefer creating a local account instead.

One of the most common workarounds has been using the OOBE\BypassNRO command during setup. However, in recent Windows builds, this method doesn’t always work as expected.

If you find that OOBE\BypassNRO no longer skips the Microsoft account requirement, there’s an alternative command that still works:

Alternate Method

  1. When you reach the Microsoft account sign-in screen during setup, press Shift + F10 to open the Command Prompt.
  2. In the command window, type the following and press Enter:
start ms-cxh:localonly

This command launches the local account creation option, allowing you to continue setup without signing in to a Microsoft account.

Notes

  • This method works on current versions of Windows 11 and may also function on late builds of Windows 10.
  • Make sure your computer is not connected to the internet during setup, or the local account option may still be hidden.
